Agerpix Technologies to showcase the quadruped robot developed for the PreVid project at Fruit Attraction, bringing computer vision to trellised vineyards

The technology company  will be at Fruit Attraction from October 6 to 8 at stand 5C15 in Pavilion 5 Innova&Tech, with an autonomous robot capable of counting grape bunches, assessing vine vigor and predicting yields in table grape vineyards, as part of an EU co-funded initiative running through 2029

Agerpix Technologies will bring to Fruit Attraction, taking place from October 6 to 8, the quadruped robot developed for the PreVid Operational Group. Visitors will be able to see it in action at stand 5C15, located in Pavilion 5 Innova&Tech. The Soria-based company’s team will accompany the robot throughout the trade fair to explain to growers, technicians and visitors what the project involves and how computer vision and artificial intelligence can be applied to crop management. Agerpix will also showcase its other solutions for the fruit and vegetable sector.

Agerpix Technologies is a key technology partner in the PreVid Operational Group, an advanced digitalisation and agronomic prediction project for table grapes using quadruped robotics, computer vision and artificial intelligence. Specifically, the technology company is responsible for integrating computer vision systems and agronomic sensors for grape bunch counting, vine vigor assessment and phenological monitoring in trellised vineyards.

An autonomous solution

The robot, which Agerpix already has at its facilities to begin developing the first prototypes, is an autonomous solution adapted to the demands of trellised vineyards: uneven terrain, slopes, roots and changing environmental conditions typical of outdoor cultivation. Equipped with cameras from Agerpix’s OnFruit solution, it will be possible to count grape bunches, assess plant vigor, estimate fruit quality and predict the productive status of trellised vineyards. This will contribute to more efficient agronomic management, more accurate yield forecasting and improved grading for export.

“Fruit Attraction is the ideal showcase for demonstrating what we are building as part of PreVid. Being able to see the robot working live makes it possible to understand within minutes how computer vision can help growers count grape bunches, measure vine vigor and anticipate the harvest using objective data. We want growers and technicians to come by, see it in action and tell us what they need in the field,” says Agerpix CEO David Francés.

Addressing a strategic need in the sector

The PreVid Operational Group addresses a strategic need in the sector: to digitalise, automate and make critical agronomic and commercial management processes more objective in a high-value production system such as trellised table grape cultivation. Expected benefits for end users include a substantial improvement in the objectivity and accuracy of grape bunch counting and yield estimation; lower costs associated with manual sampling and field technicians; optimised agronomic management through decisions based on predictive data; improved logistics and commercial planning, particularly during export campaigns; access to a scalable tool that can be replicated in other vineyard structures or similar crops; and the generation of knowledge about within-field variability, factors limiting vine vigor and phenological prediction.

During this initial phase of the project, the agronomic, technical and operational needs specific to outdoor table grape cultivation on trellises are being assessed. Based on these findings, the requirements for the robot in terms of mobility and autonomy will be defined, along with the necessary computer vision systems and sensors, as well as the operating scenarios and environmental conditions that the robotic solution will have to handle. This common foundation will provide the starting point for the next stages: designing, developing and validating the system.

The project consortium

Agerpix Technologies is joined in this initiative by the Tecnova Technology Centre, which coordinates PreVid and leads the adaptation of the quadruped robot’s navigation and actuator systems to trellised vineyards, working with Agerpix hardware; Moyca Grapes, which provides the pilot farms and validates the system under real production conditions, ensuring its applicability in an operational environment; and Codesian Software Tech, which develops the predictive models using artificial intelligence and is responsible for integrating them into the AICrop solution.

Last June, Agerpix Technologies’ headquarters in Golmayo (Soria) hosted the project kick-off. The project will run until 2029, with deployment in Castilla y León, Andalusia and the Region of Murcia. The PreVid Operational Group has an investment of €587,281.48 and is 80% co-funded by the European Union through EAFRD funds.

With its presence at Fruit Attraction, Agerpix Technologies is strengthening its role in the digitalisation of the wine and fruit and vegetable sectors while raising awareness of the PreVid project among growers, technicians and companies in the sector. Visitors wishing to see the robot in action can visit stand 5C15 in Pavilion 5 Innova&Tech from October 6 to 8.
